Top 20 Industrial Bands. Voice Yourself!

by User ImageAmbient Decay on June 15th, 2008

Looking up news and info on industrial music is always surprising, and often, complicated. There are so many sites that say they are into industrial and the related genres and then they post music updates that hardly have anything related to the genre and sub-genre’s.

Quite annoying!

However, with that being said, I found a ‘Top 20 Bands’ post from the site known as Hellwire Industrial Music, and looking through their list I thought “Now I wonder how many people actually agree or disagree with this listing?”

Many people classify so many different bands industrial and what is not industrial. The result is always a typical ‘Nah you have no idea what industrial is’ type of argument. Sometimes they are funny, accurate, and even down right vindictive.

I do hope that doesn’t happen here, but, I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Industrial listeners are known to open their mouth on their beliefs regardless if drink was a factor or not!

So here is an excerpt from Hellwires’ ‘Top 20 Bands’ list. I want your opinion on if you agree, disagree, or are even unsure of who the heck these bands are!

Here is the short teaser:

1.) low distortion unit :: (Industrial Rock) :: Average fan rating: 6.7

The industrial rock n’ electro band that composed the soundtrack of the game “alone in the dark : the new nightmare”. Go to LDU website to stream music or download for free the full OST (43 zipped MP3).

2.) CEOXiME :: (EBM) :: Average fan rating: 7.3
CEOXiME’s neoplastic claw pierced the underground electronic music scene with lamprey like accuracy. HEADaCHE spins the dials, throws levers, performs random acts of calibration while Tatiana laments. Triphop, dub and industrial is shaped and dissipated.

    Wow! I own close to 1800 cd’s only in the industrial/EBM/Electro/Darkwave category and so on … and i have only heard of two of those bands let alone putting them in a Top 20 Industrial Bands List. Unless this list was from a local band standpoint or underground scene, I can’t just help to think where is Ministry and Skinny Puppy in all of this. Not to mention even Throbbing Gristle or Psychic TV if we would go back that far. More info is needed before we can elaborate on this list before making any enemies.

    Heya eM-dibroM,

    Thanks for the heads up and I just wanted to see how many people would say “yay or nay” to this list. If you wanted though, feel free to post your own ‘Top 20 Bands’ list and we can see where the consensus is with the majority.

    I know Industrial Music is so hard to categorize and many bands fit into so many different sub-genres… but that is a part of the thrill of industrial music!

    I do agree that it seemed funny Ministry and Skinny Puppy weren’t on there. Heck even OhGr. I agree with about half of the list personally, but that’s just me. I know some people wont even classify Ministry as industrial because of the guitar rifts.
