Time for Torture Tuesday and I have a treat for all you ravers, techno, trance, and house lovers! If you’ve been listening to this type of music for a long time or even just beginning, you have by no doubt heard of the artist Paul Oakenfold.
Paul Oakenfold is the DJ, remixer and producer who did more than anyone else to break house music in Britain during the ’80s. During 1987-88, Oakenfold hosted a series of crucial club nights which introduced thousands of Brits to house music. Just a few years later, he helped push the new dance crossover into the charts by masterminding hit productions by Happy Mondays and forming one of the most successful dance labels of the ’90s, Perfecto Records. Even well over a decade after his emergence, Oakenfold remains dance music’s most popular DJ. During ‘88-’89, house music and the Balearic style were spinning at many of Oakenfold’s club nights. After he pushed the Happy Mondays into chart success, major labels were lining up to have Oakenfold remix their biggest pop stars, including U2, Simply Red, New Order, the Cure, Massive Attack, M People, Arrested Development, the Shamen, the Stone Roses and even Snoop Doggy Dogg. By the mid ’90s, dance music had reached the mainstream of British radio with Paul at the front of a new wave of globe-trotting DJs; he toured with U2, INXS, the Orb, Simply Red, Boy George and Primal Scream. On Britain’s club circuit; he began the London super-club, Ministry of Sound, in the early ’90s. Mostly releasing compilations, he released Perfection: The Perfecto Compilation in ‘96, followed by Global Underground 001 New York in ‘99, Travelling in 2000, Bust A Groove and Bunkka in 2002, and Great Wall and Hypnotized in 2003.
This is the official video to the remix and couldn’t be done any better. The hits line up with the bass and beat, Filled to the brim with great action, the movie is spectacular, and HalleBerry is looking her best. (I would have said Travolta and Jack were looking stunning as well, but I really wouldn’t want them to call me for an evening out on the town… you know how we stars are.)
