Monday Insight
Alright people, here is the Monday ramblings and hopeful insight of yet another Monday. Have I mentioned that I have been up for the better part of 24 hours?
Have you even noticed how closely related EBM, Synth-Pop, Dark Wave, Electrionica, Freeze-Pop, Gothic, and Techno are to Industrial.
Yes they all can be considered their own genre but I like to consider them a sub-genre of Industrial. The main reasoning behind this all is because without the industrial “revolution” of music, these genres most likely wouldn’t have come about. The same goes for many bands that are out there now. Depeche Mode and oGhr have brought about countless bands such as Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, Margin of Error, and many other bands.
I believe another reason why these styles of music are so closely related as far as beat wise, lyrical complexity, and the overall message of the song to industrial is that industrial is both very complex and simple at the same time. As much of an oxymoron as that sounds, it is true. The overall beat of industrial is very complex in the sense that it can’t easily be danced to. The simplicity of industrial music comes from the expressions found within the singer’s voice, the tones, how long a note is stressed and at what time during the song.
There you have it, this oxymoron isn’t such an oxymoron, now is it? Without the complexity that industrial has brought and how it is now, many of these genres would have been hard pressed to become what they are today; or even at all. NowI’m not saying that these styles couldn’t have arisen without the help of industrial music as their base. What I am saying is that it wouldn’t have been as easy and it is quite possible that many wouldn’t have even come into existence. I will leave this Monday Insight as that. Enjoy!
