I Want My Min-is-tryyyyy
Oh yes, Ministry. Can’t say I’ve kept my eyes on this band since they started their own record label called 13th Planet Records in 2004. Yes I know, slacking. Oh well get over it; I’m making up for it.
A friend recently asked me to do an overview of the band. First thing that came to mind was “SON OF A @&^%#! … hrm… Could be cool.” So here it is. His heart filled plea of “Give me Ministry or give me… Lacuna Coil!”, will be addressed. What can I say, I love my reader’s.
First off I was skeptical if it would really fall under industrial due to the fact of heavy guitar cords nearly blowing out my laptops’ single speaker as the intro page to the bands official website, ministrymusic.net, loaded. Yes I only have one speaker, get off it. IT WORKS.
I then remembered… They were one of the most noted industrial pioneers in the 80s! Hah silly me.
After listening to the intro for a few minutes I wandered my way through their site. The band’s welcoming message is captivating in the sense of wanting to bring other bands to their label and feeling like a close family all around. The color scheme and font choices, however, would be great if I lived in Texas and felt like head-banging with a cowboy hat on. Kudos to those who can, mine never stay on.
The bands latest album “Rio Grande Blood” really takes to the term “Crap or get off the pot”, rock on guys. Throughout out this album, tracks such as Lies, Lies, Lies and Ass Clown really show the faults in the current situation of the American government. They make one laser scoped razor sharp lyrical suggestion. Bush, as well as a few scatter-shots toward the president’s cabinet. Ministry takes the stance of “Anti-American” by incorporation many sound bits from the most ‘notable’ candidate’s of the government, particularly in the song Great Satan.
One thing that should be addressed here is that, terrorists do not need to bash America anymore; we do it well enough on our own. Buy “Rio Grande Blood” and find out for yourself if you aren’t convinced.
Overall this band has always mixed the metal and industrial genre together with angry lyrics, hard power ballads, and hypnotic electronic sounds very well. The band has lasted for a long time and I don’t see them laying down their political stances anytime soon. Our current president makes it so easy, can’t wait to see what the band will come up with next since election time is not so far away.
