Covenant Never Ceases To Amaze
I think everyone has music that speaks to them in various ways. An earlier post was constructed explaining how Industrial music has a Personal Message in every song that is created. The personal message is one everyone gets out of the song and not necessarily directly from the artists. With that being said, I wonder if everyone has a comfort song by a different artist each month. What happens to your comfort song when you get tired of the beat, voice, message, and overall way it makes you feel?
I know right now, one major song that I find soothing, is Covenant’s song “Atlas”. It’s mellower than say “Call the Ships to Port” and “We Want Revolution”, but the song is just as powerful in the beat and lyrical composition. It’s been awhile since I’ve listened to this song due to the memories that flood me when I do, but this morning upon creating the daily playlist, without thinking I put it in and when it came on it gave me a feeling of relief. It’s amazing how some songs are so pleasing to a person that it has a greater effect on them other than just a smile or funky jig.
The song is a downer in some ways but it doesn’t feel that way. The beat is slow and not very up beat, but Eskil Simonsson’s voice delivers is what many say, “haunting, dark, and majestic”, but he does it to an extent that makes the song very deep. He actually uplifts the song so that it isn’t depressing and turns it into one that is rather empowering if you let yourself sit back and really listen to it.
Atlas is off the bands fifth album “Northern Light”, and had help from Rammstien producer Jacob Hellner. This 2002 album was nothing sort then a masterpiece and Covenant listeners worldwide are in agreement…
Not everyone will have the same view as I do on this song as far as how deep I find it to be but many club goers and heavy industrial lovers have seen where I am coming from. Hell, a few actually contacted me and screamed “Holy crap you’re right, I never looked at the song like this!”
Now the question is: Can you see it?
As Always, Here is A Fix.
